Scenario 1

This series of scenarios shares the most serious incidents a care aide named Orillia faced in her long-term care career. Orillia is not a real person, but each story is based on true events told by different care aides currently working in elder care.

At the start of her career, Orillia was young, fit, and full of enthusiasm for her work. The first incident that led to injury happened while she was helping a co-worker transfer a resident from his bed to a wheelchair using a ceiling lift. She already knew from the resident’s care plan that he sometimes showed aggressive verbal and physical behavior.
